Local organizations partner to provide warmth and shelter for Ada County's homeless

June 2024 · 2 minute read

Winter has arrived and for those experiencing homelessness the winter elements can be dangerous.

Our Path Home is working with local partners in Ada County to help the 2,500 individuals using homelessness services by providing low-barrier daytime and overnight warm spaces to escape the cold.

The Idaho Harm Reduction Project, Treasure Valley YMCA, Boise Public Library, Cathedral of the Rockies, and Corpus Christi House are working to provide daytime spaces.

“As part of the Boise Public Library’s strategic priority, our facilities welcome those who are in search of warmth and need to escape the winter elements. Our staff, alongside our Mental Health Coordinator, are available to help guide people to resources and programs in the library and the greater community to best meet their needs.” Ashley Hammond, MHC, Boise Public Library.

Interfaith Sanctuary and the Boise Rescue Mission will be increasing their capacities so more people have a warm space both during the day and overnight this winter.

To provide a safe and warmer space for everyone this winter outreach teams will be out in the community helping those in need find resources, providing critical warm items, and ensuring access to shelters for everyone in need.

To help meet those needs Our Path Home is asking for the community's help with donating new or gently used items such as winter hats, gloves, scarves, socks, long johns, winter coats, sleeping bags, and backpacks. You can drop off donations at any Our Path Home Partners, including Corpus Christi House, CATCH, Interfaith Sanctuary, Idaho Harm Reduction Project, or the Boise Rescue Mission.
